Dr. Kari Brown Budde (pronounced “Buddy”) lives and breathes running and endurance sports. Professionally, Dr. Brown Budde runs RefinedRun.com, and sees endurance athletes of all types in Columbus, Ohio at Endurance Athletes Physical Therapy and Sport Performance. With her board certified specialization and residency in sports physical therapy, Dr. Brown Budde treats a wide range of athletes from NBA and NFL professionals to local youth athletes. While Dr. Brown Budde enjoys helping all athletes, her passion is endurance athletics.
Previously, Dr. Brown Budde was Director of the Endurance Medicine program at Ohio State University Sports Medicine, where she routinely worked with professional runners, cyclists, and triathletes; as well as elite collegiate and high school amateurs. While at Ohio State University Sports Medicine, Dr. Brown Budde was instrumental in developing the Endurance Medicine Program, including the video gait analysis, bike fitting and swim stroke analysis programs.
Dr. Brown Budde is USA Track and Field Certified Coach and medical provider. She is an active volunteer for the United States Track and Field team and annually attends and covers the track and field national championships events throughout the United States, the Olympic Trials, and volunteers at the Olympic training facilities.
Locally, Dr. Brown Budde has been a medical coverage coordinator for Pelotonia, a Columbus bike tour supporting over 4,000 riders annually, and raising over $13 million in the fight against cancer, TriFit Ross Wellness Series, a Columbus series of running races and triathlons, and she also provides medical coverage for marathons, triathlons, and track and field.
Dr. Brown Budde has been published in the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy, authored chapters in a home study program for the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Sports Physical Therapy Section on The Female Runner and Return to Running, chapters in multiple Sports Physical Therapy textbooks on Runners and the Endurance Athlete and has written numerous articles for local and national running and injury publications. She enjoys lecturing at the local, state and national level. Dr. Brown Budde is currently Vice Chair of the Running Special Interest Group of the Sports Physical Therapy Section of the APTA. She has previously held offices including serving on the Central District Board of the Ohio Physical Therapy Association. Dr. Brown Budde continues to serve on faculty with the OSU Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program and lecturing in the OSU Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Through her dedication to continuing education and excellence in sports physical therapy, she volunteers on the credentialing committee for physical therapy residencies and fellowships throughout the United States.
Dr. Brown Budde is board certified in Sports Physical Therapy through the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education. She is certified as a Graston Technique Provider, Functional Dry Needling Provider, Selective Functional Movement Analysis certified and is a Running Gait and Endurance Athlete expert.
Personally, Dr. Brown Budde enjoys running, adventure and multisport events and is currently endeavoring toward the 50 States Marathon Club. She holds PRs of 18:07 for the 5k, 1:29:00 for the 1/2 marathon and 3:14:13 for the marathon. She recently ran 5 marathons in 5 states in 5 days, all under four hours, in September of 2013. If you find her relaxing, you are almost certain to find a Running Times or Runner’s World in her hands. Endurance sports are her passion (as well as her loving husband Matt and new twin babies!).
